Knot Magic

Knots have many uses in every day life with the use of thread, cloth, rope, and other types of string or fiber to create a holding place or a bond between objects or to secure an object to another. The use of knots in magical working has been around for centuries and found in some form in many cultures.

When performing knot magic the intent is either to bind (creating a knot) or to break (removing a knot) magic. Cord or thread is the most popular when working with knot magic. Colors and numbers are important when creating knot magic. When selecting the cord for your working you will want to pick a color that provides the specific properties of the magic a person seeks to achieve. After selecting the color of the cord, a person would then select the number of knots with a complementary meaning to the color and the magic a person wishes to create.

Upon selecting the cord, the number of knots needed and other factors to assist in achieving the magical outcome the person performing the knot magic will the perform the knot work ritual. After grounding and centering, the person will tie each knot into the cord while focusing on the intent for the magic they which to achieve. Often they will chant or repeat a phrase while tying the knot to focus their intent. Once the knot work is completed, the person will often carry the knots close to them or leave them in a space where they can see them often.

For more information about knot magic, here are a couple sites I have found that explain knot magic and its origins in more detail.
